When this academic couple moved from their native Denmark to Ithaca in order to teach at Cornell, this design-savvy couple wanted their Scandinavian heritage reflected in the details of their new sleek, modern kitchen. Originally built in the 1940s in the fashionable Cayuga Heights, the kitchen was expanded to create a lighter, open feel. The custom, frameless, European-style cabinetry in a beautiful white oak finish includes fun details like a hidden shelf for the microwave and pantry. Rocco Design + Build put in a new floor, new lighting, soapstone countertops, all new appliances, and a custom glass case that showcases the couple's collection of antique beer steins.
Imbued with historically charming finishes, the kitchen of this early 1900s home required a nuanced renovation so that our clients could stall make a modern statement without compromising the architectural legacy of the space. Rocco Design + Build's team restored the original built-in cabinets and created a pass-through from the kitchen into a newly-designed breakfast nook and library. Eye-catching features include an exotic dark hardwood floor and emerald-green pendants above the marble-topped kitchen island. We also build an adjoining laundry and mudroom so as to keep the kitchen pristine.
This kitchen could fit right into an elegant Midtown Manhattan high-rise condominium. Designed with high-gloss materials and a crisp white palette to evoke a feeling of luxury, the materials selected for this major renovation required extraordinary delicacy during the construction process to ensure they would remain pristine.
