This Aurora, N.Y., summer hideaway needed a kitchen update that
would make the most of the available space. We were tasked with executing a preconceived
design through construction and project management. The exposed timber frame is
a trademark of this home, but it presented challenges. Our ingenuity with
onsite modifications solved problems while respecting the intention of the
designer. The checkered island adds visual appeal to the room, plus additional
storage with drawers underneath. We also completed a bathroom remodel, with a custom
marble tile arrangement on the floor and a radiant heating system that warms
the floor tiles, shower stall and a built-in bench. The final touch is a vessel
sink perched upon a marble countertop.
For this home from the early 1900s, we worked in close
collaboration with the homeowners to achieve a look that respected the period
and the home’s architecture while still making a statement. Our team restored and reconfigured the built-in
cabinets that were original to the kitchen. We cut out a section of those
existing cabinets to create a pass-through from the kitchen into a room that
they now use as a breakfast nook and library. Stand-out features of the kitchen
include an exotic dark hardwood for the floor, and brilliant green lighting
fixtures to pull the eye toward the custom millwork surrounding the windows and
then out to the lush backyard. Reconstruction of the adjoining laundry room and
mud room allow the three spaces to work harmoniously.
The owners have a passion for mission-style architecture and
craftsman touches. We designed and incorporated elements throughout the home
and exterior that capture the clean lines and dedication to detail that these
two styles demand. For instance, our team rebuilt the porch and added bespoke
posts, handrails and spindles. The doors to the two-car garage are a custom
design made of stained cedar. Because the property is secluded, we designed and
placed 12 decorative lamp posts to illuminate the driveway. With additional
mission-inspired touches inside, the owners felt like their home finally
reflected their taste.
This kitchen reflects the elegant style of a Midtown Manhattan
high-rise condominium. Ultra high-gloss materials and a crisp white palette
create a feeling of opulence. These choices required the team to be exceedingly
delicate during the construction process so that the materials would remain
pristine. Along with creating a kitchen that is unique within its suburban
location, it is exceptionally functional. Custom cabinets were built to
accommodate all of the cookware and kitchen essentials for someone who loves to
cook and entertain. Only high-end appliances were selected, and then placed
inconspicuously beneath the counters or concealed with custom panels. The
marble floors are heated for comfort underfoot at any time of day, and lighting
fixtures were selected and placed not just for performing tasks but also to set
a mood. Our team installed a home automation system that controls the lights,
audio and temperature.
